Caroline Wozniacki

iheartnetcords: Woz’s Woes At the Hong Kong Classic Exhibition tournament, team Europe led by Wozniacki was taking on team Russia led by Vera Zvonareva.  Team Americas and Team Asia-Pacific were playing for the silver medal match.  However Zvonareva defeated Wozniacki in 58 minutes 6-0, 6-1.  Granted it’s only an exhibition..that’s still a big whooping for the supposedly #1 female tennis player in the world.  I’m not going to join the critics in bashing Wozniacki for getting the #1 ranking despite not winning a Grand Slam.  Players like Mauresmo and Clijsters have proven that you can get the #1 ranking before winning a Grand Slam.  At the same time, you have players like Jankovic and Safina who haven’t won a Grand Slam yet.  My argument is that Woz is consistent throughout the year.  You can always count on her to beat players outside the top 10 and you’ll always see her at the quarter-finals of a tournament at least.  I think critics are focusing on her poor record against the big 4 in women’s tennis (as of right now: Henin-Clijster-Serena-Venus).  She might not be the greatest #1 player ever but she’s still only 20 so dam critics, give her a break.  She might not have weapons like Henin’s backhand or Serena’s serve but her game is still tricky.  She didn’t win six tournaments in 2010 on pure luck. mustbeacrush: World No. 1. mustbeacrush: YUM YUM! highspeedsteels: Tennis anyone?
