Zachary Levi

fyeahshelovesme:

Jane Krakowski and Laura Benanti are side by side on a tufted divan, bantering about a boy.
“Dibs!”
“We can share.”
“Is he wearing a scarf?”
“Where did he go?”
Just a funny, flirty conversation between two Tony-winning actresses, but for the boom mike, the teleprompter, the roaming camera and reflecting lights, the stylists and copywriters and publicists and audio and video technicians — in all, a crew of 26 as the two actresses and a co-star, Zachary Levi, settle in for an afternoon of shooting 15-second television commercials.
Their challenge? How to pitch to today’s ticket buyers “She Loves Me,” an old-fashioned musical from 1963 being revived this spring by the Roundabout Theater Company.
Gathered at Industria Superstudio in the West Village, marketers from Roundabout and its advertising agency, SpotCo, are trying three approaches, each emphasizing romance and comedy, and each using Mr. Levi as a punch line. In one version, Ms. Krakowski (left) and Ms. Benanti(right) describe the show but are distracted by a brief visit from Mr. Levi. In another, the three actors joke about Mr. Levi’s Tony-less-ness (“You must have won something!” Ms. Benanti gasps). In the third, they collaborate on a personal ad to promote the show (clever, because a personal ad provides the spark for the musical’s central romance).
Variations on a theme: Mr. Levi with a coat. Mr. Levi without a coat. Is there a shadow on Ms. Benanti? Can she get more light? “Zach, make sure that you give us a smile — we need to let your face register a little bit.” “One more, just like that.” “Can we take a potty break?” “Stand by!”
At one point, there is a tiny debate about Ms. Benanti’s wedding ring. Could she turn it around so it’s less visible? She resists — they are appearing in the ads as actors, not characters, and wearing their own clothing, not costumes. “No,” she blurts out, “I’m married to someone!” But then she reconsiders, realizing they are selling a show about single people looking for love. She moves the ring to her right hand.
